Double the number of people who travel on 脚, 到2030年,自行车或公共交通.

We simply can’t solve global warming without changing how Americans get around.

 •
TO GET TO ZERO CARBON: ELECTRIFY CARS

我们呼吁 all new cars to be electric by 2035.

 •
TO GET TO ZERO CARBON: ELECTRIFY BUSES

我们呼吁 all school 和 public transit 公共汽车 to be electric by 2030.
Erica Kawamoto Hsu
 •
TO GET TO ZERO CARBON: DRIVE LESS, LIVE MORE

我们的目标是 double the number of people who travel on 脚, 到2030年,自行车或公共交通.
Jennifer Newman

Our transportation system is not only America’s biggest source of carbon pollution, 我们国家的汽车, 卡车, trains 和 other vehicles emit more carbon dioxide than the entire economy of any single country other than China 和 India.

With renewable energy sources for generating electricity exp和ing rapidly, reducing pollution from our transportation system is the next major hurdle we must overcome in order to meet our commitment under the Paris Climate Agreement.

We can not only reduce but virtually eliminate transportation pollution.

几十年来,, our network 和 other environmentalists have backed policies that promote 非常高效。 , long-range electric vehicles are hitting the streets in record numbers,

然而, to meet our commitments under Paris 和 get to 零碳运输 by mid-century, 我们需要做得更多. And we need to do it from the ground up—winning nuts-和-bolts policy changes in multiple communities in multiple states—to make 零碳运输 the most convenient, 最实惠, 也是每次旅行最愉快的选择.

Despite the disagreement 和 dysfunction at the federal level, we have myriad opportunities to transform our transportation systems at the local, 国家和地区层面.

纽约, 芝加哥, Seattle 和 the state of 加州 have already committed to switch from dirty 柴油 to clean electric 公共汽车. Our network has led efforts to improve public transportation 和 build safer streets for walking 和 biking in 科罗拉多州 as well as Arizona, 加州, 乔治亚州, 伊利诺斯州, 麻萨诸塞州, 俄勒冈州, 宾西法尼亚, 华盛顿和威斯康辛州.

Here’s what we need to do next to get to a 零碳运输 system:

使充电汽车

车s account for 60 percent of our transportation pollution. A 零碳运输 system means that every car on the road will need to run on clean, 2050年可再生能源.

 • 10个州的领导人采纳了加州的 零排放汽车计划;

 • Lawmakers in nine states to pass legislation including EV tax rebates, support for 充电站, more; 和

 • Officials in 12 states to approve the highest st和ards under the regional 交通与气候倡议.

大约450000脏 柴油 校车至今仍在使用, adding to our carbon emissions while putting tens of millions of children at risk of 癌症和呼吸道疾病. 我们呼吁 all school 和 public transit 公共汽车 in 科罗拉多州 to be electric by 2030.

 • Calling on our state 和 the federal government to increase technical 和 financial assistance for bus operators to go electric.

如果我们成功了 更容易, 更便宜, 乘火车或公共汽车更愉快, 分享骑, 或者骑自行车或步行, then more of us will choose to travel without a car or even not own a car at all. 我们的目标是 double the number of people who travel on 脚, 到2030年,自行车或公共交通.

 • Secure increased funding to improve 和 exp和 public transportation, as we did in 麻萨诸塞州,

 • Support policies that encourage transit-oriented 发展 和 sustainable living, as we have in 德州.

There’s growing evidence that the public is ready for these changes.

Transit agencies are finding that We can not only reduce carbon pollution but also make it 更容易 和 more pleasant to get around.

Easing 和 expediting the changes we need to get to zero carbon

例如, 贝博官方 和 our national network of state-based environmental advocates have helped convince more than a dozen states to adopt 加州’s clean cars st和ard, which has spurred improvements in electric vehicle technology. Our national network's research partner, Environment America Research & Policy Center, along with our partners at Frontier Group, have reported on ways to achieve

在美国工作, 我们可以立即取得进展的运动, we can get America back on track to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, 不管华盛顿发生了什么, D.C. 我们等待减少碳污染的时间就越长, 地球变暖的速度就越快, robbing our kids 和 gr和kids of the stable climate that we have taken for granted.

Don't let the Trump administration pull the plug on 电动汽车

Here’s one step we can take right now: Defend the federal tax credit for electric vehicles.

The skeptics ask whether Americans are really ready to part with gasoline-powered cars. But moving away from gasoline 和 柴油 means cleaner air for ourselves 和 our kids—和 fewer of the tragic spills 和 other environmental calamities that inevitably come with oil production. And the transition to 零碳运输 will give Americans new freedom to travel in ways that are clean, 负担得起的和有趣的, 有安全的地方步行和骑自行车, 方便的公共汽车和火车, 我们可以通过应用程序购买或订购电动汽车.
